A true home from home
From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel truly at home. The welcome we received was just an indicator of the owners true genuine hospitality which was evident throughout the duration of our stay. Very comfortable, spotlessly clean and very warm during some of the coldest January London weather. The apartment contained everything you need for a home from home. Milk, water, tea, coffee, fruit and chocolates were the added extras that made all the difference. We absolutely fell in love with Barney the dog who always had a wagging tail to welcome us when we returned!
Friendly, welcoming, hospitable, clean, comfortable and warm - what more can be said?
HIGHLY RECOMMEND - Convenient, spacious, lots of amenities and great service!!
My husband and I stayed in the downstairs apartment for five nights in December. I can't recall how we found it, but the great reviews here sealed the deal! We were VERY pleased with everything at the Griffin House and found it to be a great value compared to other places (it was actually a fraction of the price of much smaller options).
We were impressed with the service before we even arrived. Since it was my first time in London I had a ton of questions and Ben and Nic were happy to oblige via email. The day before were arrived I emailed them from Bath and asked if they could recommend a laundromat nearby. They responded by saying that we could use their washer and dryer, and they actually ended up doing two loads for us, without charging a dime!
Once we arrived, everything was in order. We had a car our first night and they kindly provided us with a parking pass. When they brought us to the apartment, I must confess that the bars on the doors and windows both concerned and reassured me at the same time. However, once we had an opportunity to explore the neighborhood we were not the least bit concerned about safety or security. We were very comfortable walking around at any time of the day or night (whether together or alone). In fact, the Griffin House is in a great little location with all sorts of quickie marts, restaurants, etc. nearby, not to mention easily accessible tube stops.
As far as the accommodations go, we wanted for nothing! Everything was very nice, clean and well maintained. The kitchen was well stocked, there was water and milk in the fridge, a bowl of fruit and another of candy. The TV had a bazillion channels, there was a DVD player, iron and hair dryer. There were towels in the bathroom, plenty of blankets/pillows, TP, soap and all the basics. I think there was also coffee and tea, but I don't recall for sure since I don't drink either! :-) They even had a great little binder that was full of info about the apartment, how to use the TV, how to access the Internet (which we did A LOT), info about the area, restaurant recommendations, ground transportation, etc.. It came in VERY handy!
I must say, I was very surprised to see a recent bad review; I can't relate at all. Not only did we find Ben and Nic to be very responsive, we just didn't have any problems. The Internet and heat worked fine, we had no issues with the shower or dishwasher and the fire alarm never went off. Mice? Nope, no mice, rodents, bugs or any other critters (well, except for Barney the dog, the cats and a chicken or two out back! :-)). So I can't figure it out. All I can say is this ...
There are 51 reviews:
47 = 5 star (once our review is added, that will be 48)
3 = 4 star
1 = 1 star
There are not even any 2 or 3 star reviews! Given that, I would take that one bad review, 1 of 52, with a grain of salt ... 51 stellar reviews say a lot more to me than one negative one.
I think our time at the Griffin House can best be summed up with this story. I started feeling under the weather before we got to London. After our first night there I decided I need to see a doctor. Nic not only told me how to get into a doctor and recommended a pharmacy/meds, he actually offered to let me use his inhaler! On top of that, just being in an apartment was much more conducive to R&R&R (that last R is for recovery :-)) than being stuck in a hotel. Frankly, that 2nd bedroom even came in handy - I slept in it for several nights to spare my husband from my constant coughing. Since I was sick we were not out and about as much as usual when traveling, so all of those TV channels, the hassle-free Internet service and the fridge were just what I needed. I don't think it could have been any better than that away from home.
Suffice it to say we have already recommended the Griffin House to others. We hope that you have the opportunity to stay there as well, enjoying the same hospitality that we did. Safe travels to you and yours!
Fantastic!
I saw mention of the Griffin House somewhere (can't recall where,) and so went to the website. Everything seemed to fit my needs, so I looked at some reviews -- all raves.
So, I emailed a request for 3 nights during a block of time & was told they had 5 nites available. I immediately booked all 5.
Though it isn't in Central London, it's not so far out that it really matters. I would have another 9 nites elsewhere in Central London & besides, I rarely visit London to sightsee; I simply enjoy being there.
Anyway, the apartment was far larger than I imagined. It had a private entrance & another entrance to the back garden. The guys who run it were most hospitable. I never had a problem, but feel certain that if I did they would have immediately rectified it.
In fact, one night there was a problem at a house a few doors down that caused the electricity to be shut off. They brought a bottle of wine to make up for something that was out of their control.
There is a large, but friendly dog who might come around to say, "Hello" and they have two chickens in the garden, as well as two cats. They brought me a fresh egg one morning.
If more places were run the way these men run their inn no one would ever have a complaint. I highly reccomend for anyone to stay here. It won't disappoint
Also, there are plenty of restaurants and off-licences, as well as pubs w/in walking distance. There are also about 4 or 5 supermarkets. The Griffin House is located equidistance between the Stockwell and Clapham North Tube Stas.
