See artist Eva Rothschild's new work – a 70-metre-long sculpture – for free at Tate Britain this year.
Tate Britain's Duveens Commission
This year's Tate Britain Duveens Commission is by Eva Rothschild, a Dublin-born, London-based sculptor.
The Duveens commission, which has featured Mark Wallinger and Martin Creed in previous years, invites an artist to create a work or works for show at Tate Britain's Duveen Galleries.
Sculpture in Tate's Duveen Galleries
Eva Rothschild is one of the most interesting sculptors working today, creating works that beguile with their subtlety and illusion
– Stephen Deuchar, Tate BritainTaking an innovative approach, Rothschild has created a single piece to fill the Duveens Gallery space. The result is a fluid sculpture, more than 70 metres long. The sculpture is to be a modern contrast to the neoclassical galleries.
Rothschild says, "'I'm excited about making a new work for this year's Duveens Commission. I'm hoping to create something that will agitate the architecture of the Duveen Galleries, tangling with your perception of the space."
About Eva Rothschild
Artistic acclaim for Eva Rothschild (born 1972) has steadily risen during the past decade, resulting in numerous solo and group exhibitions in the UK, US and Europe.
Stephen Deuchar, Director of Tate Britain, says, "I'm delighted that Eva Rothschild has accepted Tate Britain's invitation to create this year's Commission. She is one of the most interesting sculptors working today, creating works that beguile with their subtlety and illusion. I look forward to seeing the new site-specific sculpture she is creating for the Tate Britain Duveens Commission this summer."
