By far the biggest event in London on New Year's Day is the fabulous New Year's Day Parade. Kicking off on Piccadilly at 12pm, the procession winds its way through Central London before finishing in Parliament Square.
London's Museums and Galleries on New Year's Day

Many of London's best museums and galleries will open on New Year's Day, and most of them are free to enter. Perfect if you've blown your budget the night before!
Head to South Kensington, where the Science Museum, Natural History Museum and the V&A all open on New Year's Day.
The Museum of London and the Museum of London Docklands are also open and free, and both have plenty to entertain children and adults alike!
Art lovers are also catered for on New Year's Day in London, with both Tate Britain and Tate Modern opening their doors. The galleries are likely to be quieter than usual, so it's an ideal time to take in the amazing work on display.
Walking in London on New Year's Day

If you've over indulged the night before, a walk through London on New Year's Day might be the best way to start 2010!
Wander along Regent's Canal, visit Hyde Park, or make a day of it with a winter walk at Kew Gardens. You'll find a lot of places are open and a lot quieter than usual.
If you fancy something even more active, get your skates on at one of London's winter ice rinks.
