Testing, Testing, 1, 2, 3- is an exploratory surgery on the intangible remains of meaning. Chosen objects are employed as malleable locations from which to treat and extract notions of value and meaninglessness. Sunshine Frère has produced a machine that attempts to measure the value of absolutely everything that exists, and a grid of paintings that have been r-e-valuated within the constructs of this contemporary paradigm. Qualify, quantify, appraisal everlasting value added, valueless. The connection between crowd, subject and viewer is explored through drawing in Charlotte Patton's work for Testing, Testing, 1, 2, 3... An aggressive crowd cranes to catch a glimpse of what was a contentious footballer, only to see the artist's marks upon the page. The nature of the individual and the group, the hand-made and the mass produced is a continually rebounding relationship. Holly Stevenson's video projection and collaged surfaces examine the intersection where economy encounters the narrative world of a metaphoric forest.
