Our Environmental Policy

At Visit London we regard sustainability and tackling climate change as key strategic issues for us and for London as a whole. We are therefore committed to the implementation of an effective environmental management system that will not only reduce the impact of our activities on the environment but also increase our efficiency and effectiveness.

  • Our policy is to minimise the environmental risks to our employees and the community in which we operate by:
  • Conducting our operations so as to fully comply with all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Continuously improving our businesses processes so as to ensure that they use the minimum level of energy and materials consistent with achieving our business objectives.
  • Minimising the production of waste by developing a sustainable purchasing policy, and by encouraging the reuse and recycling of materials.
  • Carefully selecting the products and services we use to ensure that they have the minimum impact on the environment consistent with achieving our business objectives.
  • Involving Visit London's employees in environmental stewardship through job responsibilities and training.
  • Minimising the impact of our work-related travel.

What We've Done

  • We have attained Acorn accreditation for our BS8555 environmental management system.
  • We have identified and evaluated the environmental impact of all of our activities, and set a series of targets for the reduction of our environmental impact.
  • We have achieved a 63% reduction in the amount of office paper used per person; a 29% increase in the proportion of waste which is recycled; and a 50% increase in the number of PCs and monitors switched off out of work hours.
  • We also recycle all printer cartridges, fluorescent light bulbs and PCs.
  • We now print on office paper which is recycled or from sustainable sources.
  • We have installed energy-efficient devices in our offices.
  • We serve Fair Trade drinks and snacks in our office.
  • We offset all of our air travel and introduced a policy for our staff to use trains and public transport wherever possible for business travel.

What We Plan To Do Next

  • Reduce the total amount of waste generated per person by 10%.
  • Increase the amount of waste recycled from 37% to 50%.
  • Increase the amount of sustainable goods purchased, including office consumables and marketing materials.
  • Reduce the amount of carbon produced from energy consumption and travel by 10%.
  • Increase staff awareness of environmental issues and how they can reduce their impacts.
