South East Asian London

South East Asian countries are represented in London predominantly by the Vietnamese community who number just over 14,000. Most arrived here after the Vietnam War in the 1970s and have mainly settled along the multicultural thoroughfares of Kingsland Road and Mare Street, both in Hackney.

Other South East Asian communities, such as those from Malaysia, Korea, Thailand and Indonesia aren't so visible in terms of a specific neighbourhood. They have, nonetheless, had an undeniable influence on London's culinary world. South East Asian restaurants - especially Thai - can be found on almost every high street all over the city.
