2012 Olympic Events at London's World-Class Venues

Parks, world-class sports venues and exhibition spaces across London will be used for the 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games. 

Below is our guide to which existing London venues will be hosting Olympic events. 

Lord's Cricket Ground

The iconic London sports ground and "home of world cricket", Lord's Cricket Ground will host the Olympic Archery events.

ExCeL

One of London's biggest and most prestigious conference venues, ExCeL will showcase the Olympic sports of Boxing, Fencing, Judo, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Weightlifting, Wrestling, Boccia, Paralympic Table Tennis, Paralympic Powerlifting and Wheelchair Basketball during the Games.

The Regent's Park

The Road Cycling course will take in some of London's premier locations including Hampstead Heath, before reaching its conclusion in The Regent's Park in front of 3,000 seated spectators.

Wembley Stadium

Olympic Football (soccer) will be played at existing stadia in London and throughout the UK. In London, Wembley Stadium boasts 90,000 capacity.

Other famous locations where matches will be played include: Hampden Park in Glasgow; Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, Manchester's Old Trafford, St James' Park, Newcastle and Birmingham's Villa Park.

Wimbledon

What could be more fitting than the London 2012 Olympic Tennis at Wimbledon? With seating capacity for up to 30,000 spectators, Wimbledon is the only major grass-court Tennis venue in the world.

Hyde Park

Central London's Hyde Park will host the Olympic Triathlon and 10km Open Water Swim in the Serpentine. From a temporary structure in the park, 3,000 spectators will enjoy a grandstand view of the finishing area for the events, with many thousands more able to watch as the athletes swim, cycle and run on the course.

Hyde Park will also be home to the music, theatre, film and cultural events that will take place throughout the summer of 2012 to accompany the Olympic Games.

Earls Court

Olympic Volleyball will be held at the 15,000-seat Earls Court venue, one of London's best exhibition spaces.

Horse Guards Parade

This historic location in Central London boasts the Prime Minister as a neighbour and hosts the famous Trooping The Colour ceremony each year on the Queen's Birthday.

For the London 2012 Olympics, the 250-year old Horse Guards Parade courtyard will be filled with sand and a temporary, 15,000 seat arena to host the Beach Volleyball competition. We've heard Her Majesty's a fan.
